Warden's Report: June 2023
Present: Fr. Morgan Reed, Alexei Laushkin, Chip Webb, Carol Weiler
The Corpus Christi Anglican Church (CCAC) vestry held its initial meeting on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 7:30 PM.
Devotional: The Works of God
Fr. Morgan led a devotional employing Judges 2:10–12 as a Text for reflection. CCAC is in a transition period now where many congregants and new arrivals do (will) not have knowledge of the church's early days. One of the vestry's responsibilities is to keep the history and current outsourcing of the works of God before the congregation. And as newcomers arrive, the vestry must remember that what now seems to be routine CCAC practices are fresh and new for them.
Vestry Formation
This vestry replaces a governing board that supported Fr. Morgan the first approximately three years of CCAC's existence. The board approved many bylaws and articles that Fr. Morgan drafted under the review of CCAC Chancellor Alex Elmore, and also passed the church's accounting controls and initial budgets. During this same time, Fr. Morgan and Jody developed CCAC standard operating procedures (SOP) and a personnel handbook.
Due to the way in which vestry members will be added over time, two of the current members will serve for three years (Chip and Alexei) and one for two years (Carol). This division was determined by surveying the members about how long they could or desired to serve. In terms of roles, Chip was elected senior warden, Carol junior warden, and Alexei treasurer. Fr. Morgan will serve as secretary.
Financials
CCAC is overall doing well financially with substantial reserves, although the church is not yet self-sustaining. Outside sources of funding will continue to be sought. Expenses were somewhat higher than normal in the spring. Fr. Morgan and Alexei will come up with the budget and write the financial summaries each month; the vestry will approve the budget.
Discipleship
Confirmation classes will continue to be an emphasis going forward; another one is slated for the Fall. Fr. Morgan is praying for more confirmations and baptisms.
Ministry to young adults and children/youth are other priorities. Our summer intern Justin Gonzalez has been developing an idea for a Pub and Patristics ministry for the former group, and Fr. Morgan has been talking with Ann Cregger of The Navigators' Navs 20s' parachurch ministry about connecting twentysomethings interested in a high church with CCAC. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) will expand to set up a level two for 9-to-12 year olds, and Fr. Morgan has reached out to Irving Middle School for ways to partner.
Men's ministry continues to meet, and Fr. Morgan is looking to restart the women's ministry in the neat future.
The meeting adjourned at 9:22 PM.
