The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Begins

  • Corpus Christi Anglican Church 7047 Old Keene Mill Road Springfield, VA, 22150 United States (map)

Overview

Starting Sunday, September 11th, children ages 3-8 are invited to join us in the atrium for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). This program teaches children about Jesus, their Good Shepherd, how to pray through a Montessori-based approach and modeling our liturgy in an age-appropriate way that engages children as whole persons. We will have periodic breaks this fall and winter, in which the children will join the full service. Those dates are: October 9th, November 20th, and December 25 and January 1.

Check-In Process

Each Sunday we offer CGS, please check in your child at the nursery station. Please ensure that you have a cell phone of an adult who is present in the service as we will use that if there are any bathroom needs. After checking in and your child receives their name tag, you may bring them to the atrium between 8:50 - 9:00 am to begin their work. Please do not bring outside food, drinks, toys or books to the atrium. Water bottles are permitted if they have closed lids.

Bathrooms

We will text you if your child needs to use the bathroom. Please encourage your children to go to the bathroom before entering the atrium. The bathrooms are located in the hallway just past the nursery.

Curious about the Atrium? Sign up to Observe

We will have a sign-up sheet outside of the atrium with dates we’re meeting. You are welcome to sign up and observe atrium. No CGS experience needed and Ashley can address any questions you may have about what to expect.

Atrium Timing

This season we are encouraging children to arrive at the start of service, so we can maximize our time spent in the atrium. We anticipate that our time in the atrium will conclude in 45 - 50 minutes. The children will be brought back to the service during the passing of the peace or during the announcements.

Ways to Participate

Each week we are going to help beautify the space with freshly cut flowers. If you have any in your garden you’re willing to part with, please place them in the pitcher outside of the room before the atrium begins.
