Warden's Report: July 2023

The Corpus Christi Anglican Church (CCAC) vestry held its second meeting on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 7:30 PM.

Vestry Protocol

The vestry discussed certain matters of protocol during their meeting:

• How many members need to be present for a vestry meeting to be held?—The vestry members present proposed that three members must be present to constitute a quorum that permits a meeting to go forward.

• When only some of the members are present, how will voting occur?—The vestry members present proposed that critical and/or time-sensitive issues can be voted on between meetings. Otherwise, voting will wait until the next monthly meeting.

• How will the results of voting be decided?—Given the vestry's current small size, the vestry members present recommended that voting must be unanimously In favor for a measure to pass. This matter might be revisited as the vestry expands in numbers.

• What happens when the vestry discusses particularly sensitive matters?—The vestry members present considered the option that in  those cases, executive sessions will be called. Such sessions would keep all knowledge of matters discussed during those sessions confidential to vestry members.

• How will the vestry disseminate news of its activities to the congregation?—The vestry members present considered the option of monthly senior warden reports that would summarize the previous meeting's events. Other senior warden letters might go out once or twice a year.

Given Carol's absence, it was decided that all of these matters would be discussed further and voted upon during the August vestry meeting.

Financials

CCAC's reserves remain strong. The vestry discussed possible reasons as to why plate giving was a little lower in June, with parishioners being out-of-town during the summer being the most likely cause. All agreed that at this point, the slight drop was not a worry. 

The Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic (DOMA) has transferred the funds that it held on behalf of CCAC to CCAC's bank account. This move testifies to the congregation's continued growth and increased independence. Additionally, Alexei outlined a scenario in which CCAC can move from its current slight deficit to a surplus in the next three-to-four years.

Regarding outside sources of funding, the diocesan Great Commission Committee's current funding of CCAC is running out. However, the Falls Church Anglican (TCFA) will consider whether to give CCAC a grant.

CCAC is considering a new accounting service for financial services and reporting. Alexei is also looking to streamline existing financial reporting methods.
