Join us: Season of Lent
This is our first opportunity as a church plant to celebrate the entirety of Lent together! Here is a brief description of Lent, our sermon series, and opportunities to participate.
What is Lent?
The Church has given us this season as a time of special devotion to journey with Jesus on the road to His passion and resurrection. It is a season that recounts the grace of God given in the Gospel and shows us our need to renew ourselves continually in repentance and faith. It is a season of self-examination and repentance by fasting, prayer, alms-giving, and by reading and meditating on the Scriptures (you will hear this invitation in more detail on Ash Wednesday).
Sermon Series
Our sermon series is called "Slow Discipleship in an Instant Society". One thing I love about Lent is that it helps us to slow down and to reprioritize our life in our walk with Jesus. We get to sit with intention and look at how our lives could be more open to God's grace. It doesn't happen in an instant. It is a slow process, a pilgrimage with Jesus, that is not always glamorous, though it is always good.
Resources
I love many of the resources that the Little Way Chapel publishes and one of their blog entries is on three traditions for Shrove Tuesday. Consider having a friend or neighbor over tomorrow night for some pancakes!
In preparation for our series I am rereading Eugene Peterson, A Long Obedience in the Same Direction
If you want something to read from the Tradition of the church, I would recommend Romanos the Melodist, Hymns of Repentance.
You can follow daily prayer rhythms with your book of Common Prayer, or use this website, or listen to morning prayer as a podcast.
